CESLAM is involved in carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the available data on migration in Nepal. Although Nepalis are going abroad in large numbers, due to the lack for effective government mechanism, there is no concrete data on the number of migrants. This forthcoming working paper explores various sources that depict the number of migrants, who go abroad for various reasons. While the focus would undoubtedly be on labour migration, this working paper also depicts other aspects of migration, such as student migration, nurse migration, etc. By the review of the available data, from censuses over the years, the Department of Foreign Employment, Nepal Nursing Council, and Ministry of Education, among others, a number of issues in the governmental data would be presented and policy changes would be suggested. Not just the national data, data from various destinations would also be reviewed and any conflict in the data would be discussed. (Forthcoming).
