Duration: December 2012 to May 2014
CESLAM was involved in a study on migrant workers’ access to justice, a joint collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania, the University of New South Wales, and the Open Society Foundations’ International Migration Initiative. The project was designed to identify the most significant problems faced by migrant workers in terms of violation of their rights, map the ways in which legal frameworks and mechanisms protect the rights of these workers and their families, determine and ensure accountability for rights violations, and enable redress when those problems occur. It also looks into the unofficial justice mechanisms in place in Nepal through which workers seek redressal. This research is part of a larger endeavour to provide recommendations on improving transnational access to justice for migrant workers.
