KATHMANDU, Aug 30: A 51-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the capital murder of 21-year-old Nepali student Muna Pandey in Houston on Saturday. The arrest was made early Thursday, according to local media reports.
Additional charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon were later filed against the suspect, identified as Bobby Singh Shah, according to Houston Public Media.
Shah allegedly shot and killed Muna Pandey during an aggravated robbery over the weekend. Her body was found in an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds, and paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
On Wednesday, the Houston Police Department released a photograph of the suspect captured on a surveillance camera at the apartment where Pandey was killed.
Shah was apprehended during a traffic stop in northwest Houston with the assistance of Houston Police Department SWAT officers.
Pandey, who moved to the U.S. in 2021 to pursue graduate studies in nursing at Houston Community College, had recently moved into her own apartment after initially staying with a friend.
Her mother, Anita Pandey Adhikari, who lives in Nepal, wishes to travel to the U.S. for her daughter’s funeral but is facing financial challenges.
To assist with these expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched with a goal of $50,000. The campaign aims to cover the costs of bringing Anita to the U.S. for Muna’s funeral and other related expenses.
