Man arrested on charge of human trafficking

The human trafficking investigation bureau of Nepal Police has arrested 54-year-old Buddhiraj Neupane of Jhapa.

According to the bureau’s Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra, Neupane was arrested for his alleged involvement in human trafficking by luring a woman to Mauritius on the pretext of green card. The victim, a 27-year-old woman complained at the bureau after returning from Mauritius on July 4.

Mishra said that Neupane sent the woman to Mauritius with the assurance that she would be employed as a cook with a monthly salary of Rs 70,000 and would also get a green card after some time. She was sent to Mauritius via Delhi in November 2023. Neupane had charged the woman Rs 250,000.

The woman was handed over to a Mauritian citizen. She was employed for 17-18 hours a day and also sexually exploited, and was sent back to Nepal with support from the Nepalis in Portugal.
