BELGRADE, July 27: Thirty Afghan and Nepali migrants were injured when a van transporting them overturned in southeastern Serbia, reported RTS state-run television on Saturday.
Three migrants remain hospitalized while the others received medical care and were placed at a reception center run by the country's Commissariat for Refugees, according to RTS.
The injured migrants are men from Nepal and Afghanistan, the broadcaster stated, citing the commissariat.
The accident occurred on Friday on a highway near the town of Bela Palanka when the van, carrying nearly 50 migrants, slipped off the road.
Serbia lies along the so-called Balkans route, used by migrants heading towards the European Union. In 2023, nearly 100,000 migrants traveled this route, according to Frontex, the EU's border surveillance agency.
