According to the data from the Department of Foreign Employment, over 760,000 labour permits were issued for UAE-bound Nepali workers in the last two and a half decades. The number of labour permits issued for ‘new entry’ to the UAE surged from a little over 100 in 1993/94 to over 12,000 in 2002/03, and increased almost five-folds since then to reach a record 60,000 in 2017/18.
